Laccase production by Aspergillus niveus on SSF using wheat bran as alternative carbon source and its synergistic effect on pulp biobleaching using a mix of laccase/xylanase from the same microorganism
Written by   Published On Issue 2 Vol 6, 2015
Aiming to investigate the production oflaccases by Aspergillus niveus RP05, the performance of this enzyme on cellulose pulp biobleaching wasanalyzed and tests of mixing laccase/xylanases from the same microorganism were also included. A.niveus was cultivated at 30ºC, for 2 weeks on solid state fermentation (SSF) composed by wheat bran and 0.05 M (NH4)2HPO4 (1:2 – w/v) for laccase production. Optima of temperature and pH reaction were 60ºC and 4.5 – 7.0, respectively. The correlation betwe

Anti-inflammatory activity and COX 2 inhibition potential of Trois in murine macrophage cell line
Written by   Published On Issue 2 Vol 6, 2015
The objective of present study was to investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of Trois in lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced macrophage RAW 264.7 cells. A biomembrane stabilisation assay was also conducted to evaluate its role in biomembrane fluidity during inflammation. Cytotoxicity of drugs on RAW 26-4.7 macrophages cell line was conducted using 3-(4,5-dimet-hylthiazole-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. mRNA expression of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) was studied us-ing polymerase

Optimized lactic acid production from whey using hybrid design and ridge analysis
Written by   Published On Issue 2 Vol 6, 2015
Cheese whey, a byproduct of dairy industry, is usually considered as a high strength wastewater from environmental point of view because of its high chemical oxygen demand. Production of valuable chemicals from cheese whey has been considered as an attractive option because of its rich nutrient content. This investigation aimed at the optimized production of lactic acid from cheese whey using isolated Lactobacillus plantarum JX183220 under submerged fermentation by applying response surface meth

MICROBIAL DEGRADATION OF PLASTIC: A REVIEW
Written by   Published On Issue 2 Vol 6, 2015
Since last few decades the uncontrolled use of plastics for various purposes such as packaging, transportation, industry and agriculture in rural as well as urban areas, has elevated serious issue of plastic waste disposal and its pollution. The efficient decomposition of plastic bags takes about 1000 years.  Plastic causes pollution and global warming not only because of increase in the problem of waste disposal and land filling but also release CO2 and dioxins due to burning. Commonly used me
