Peer review policy on the Journal of Biochemical Technology
The practice of peer review is to ensure that good science is published. It is an objective process at the heart of good scholarly publishing and is carried out on all reputable scientific journals. Our reviewers therefore play a vital role in maintaining the high standards of the Journal of Biochemical Technology and all manuscripts are peer reviewed following the procedure outlined below.
Initial manuscript evaluation
The Editor first evaluates all manuscripts. It is rare, but it is entirely feasible for an exceptional manuscript to be accepted at this stage. Articles which are insufficiently original, have serious scientific flaws, have poor grammar or English language, or are outside the aims and scope of the journal will be sent to author within two days further revision. Those that meet the minimum criteria are passed on to at least 2 experts for review.
Type of peer review
This journal employs single blind review, where the reviewers remain anonymous throughout the process. Reviewers are matched to the paper according to their expertise. Our database is constantly being updated. We request suggestions for referees from the author though these recommendations may or may not be used.
Reviewers reports
Reviewers are asked to evaluate whether the manuscript:
-Is original
-Is methodologically sound
-Follows appropriate ethical guidelines
-Has results which are clearly presented and support the conclusions
-Correctly references previous relevant work
-Reviewers are not expected to correct or copyedit manuscripts. Language correction is not part of peer review process
-Reviewer are requested to suggest suitable solutions including experimental protocols, procedures for analysis etc for the shortfalls or errors in manuscripts.
Typically reviewers are requested to review the manuscript within one to two weeks (maximum). Should the reviewers' reports contradict one another or a report is unnecessarily delayed a further expert opinion will be sought. Revised manuscripts are usually returned to the initial reviewers within 24 hours.
Final report
A decision to accept, revise or reject the manuscript will be sent to the author along with any recommendations made by the reviewers, and may include verbatim comments by the reviewers. A decision of 'revise' does not necessarily mean the manuscript is to be accepted.
Editor's decision is final
Reviewers advise the editor for the final decision to accept or reject the article.
Becoming a reviewer
If you are not currently a reviewer for the Journal of Biochemical Technology but would like to be added to the list of referees for this title, please contact the editor. The benefits of refereeing include the opportunity to see and evaluate the latest work in your research area at an early stage. You may also be able to cite your work for the Journal of Biochemical Technology as part of your professional development requirements for various Professional Societies and Organisations.
Journal of Biochemical Technology is a peer reviewed quarterly journal. Articles will be immediately published online with 'Article in Press' tag within 15 days from the data of acceptance..
This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
Open Access publication - Donations
Journal of Biochemical Technology is running by Biochemical Technology Society (Non-Governmental/Not-for-profit organization) and does not receive funding from any institution/government. Hence, the operation of the Journal is solely financed by the donations collected from authors, members and academic/corporate sponsors. (For donations, please mail to [email protected])
